In 2008 , wii released its first console and sold over 90 million of its product , shutting up everyone who said “wii .. haha” . But with latest consoles coming up it just occupied a place in every house in UK .To match up the expectations wii unveiled its new concept during Nintendo’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2011(popularly known as E3) on June 7, 2011.
Lack of HD , limited network infrastructure and to be considered in a separate class from their competitors like PS3 and XBOX 360, nintendo came up with an idea of a new console , 1080p with significant changes to keep itself up to the mark . This much debated idea, scrapped and restarted many a times , wii brought up the idea of a new console with a new touchscreen controller .
IBM says it has a 45nm multi-core Power processor with embedded DRAM. But others sources say that it won’t be able to match even the present PS3 and XBOX 360 and even the graphics are poorer , forget about the upcoming PS4 or XBOX 720 .Whereas, Wii U Daily claimed in November 2011 that the Wii U has a 3GHz quad-core Power-PC-based 45nm CPU that’s very similar to the Xbox 360’s CPU.
It was also seen that along with not a so good hardware as discussed above , it does not have anything for hardcore gamers . Well if you are a gamer you already have an XBOX or PS3 . You have played games like Assassin’s Creed 3, Batman :Arkham City . It listed mario 2D old school in its list after mario 3D adventure is already on board.
But against everything wii u is a family friendly device . For eg , while playing mario four players can play on controllers and one on the gamepad defeating enemies . Adding to it the system is backward compatible with Wii, and Wii U games can support compatibility with Wii peripherals,such as Nunchuk . Apart from this wii u does video calling on its pad using its front camera and it will also also have an app store beyond the current Wii Shop offering .
Now for those who were scratching their heads every time they came across the word ‘ GAMEPAD’ . Its more than just a controller ,the main idea of the new console .It introduces a second screen into the traditional gaming setup. A 6.2-inch resistive touchscreen with a wireless dual analogue stick controller. A hybrid of traditional pad and tablet PC. A second screen for displaying maps and objectives or a place to continue the game, should the TV be needed by someone else. You can also play games on the screen without even switching your television on .The console will also feature a second controller available separately, called the Wii U Pro Controller. It features the standard control sticks, button and triggers of most regular controllers .
Its market would a lot depend on its price .In Wii ‘s success its affordable price was the most crucial factor . So, it would be difficult for Wii u bring down its price along with its 6.2 inch gamepad. Getting the price right would be the key with the magnificent Wii u .
